Flex Wednesday

On Wednesdays, we have a different type of schedule than the other high schools in our district. We call them Flex Wednesdays, a day conceptualized by ILHS students to allow time for education beyond the typical classroom. Students are able to learn new skills, explore their interests, and take control of their learning by participating in student-led clubs, creating projects, attending interest-based flex sessions, and listening to guest speaker seminars.

Flex Wednesday is broken into five different slots: Two club slots, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, two enrichment slots where students have at least four different options per slot to choose between meeting with guest speakers, student-led activities, student forums, mini interest lessons, and creating in the Makers’ Space.

Flex Wednesday is a time for students to gain skills, whether it be playwriting, CPR certification, playwriting, and acting class. Upper classmen have also created lessons to help the freshmen and new ILHS students be successful in our unique learning enviroment.

One Perseverance Time (project work time or can be used as office hours for teachers) and one slot for Crew.

During Flex Wednesdays students hone their skills in the following areas: Time Management, Compartmentalization, Independence, Collaboration, Leadership, and Project Management. Much like in life after high school, students decide for themselves where they want to spend their time, and how to use it.
